Healthy protein alternatives are eggs, nuts, soybeans, lentils and other pulses. Omega 3 fatty acids also promote healthy hair and healthy nails. Try and eat two portions of oily fish a week, such as mackerel. Walnuts, flax seed, and rice are also a good source of fatty acids which are essential to keeping your hair shiny. Zinc and iron are the minerals your body needs to help hair follicles to grow. Foods that are high in both zinc and iron include prawns, oysters, beef and flax and pumpkin seeds.

Natural hair conditioners will keep your hair soft, supple and strong. This makes it easier to brush and style. Coconut oil is a great natural conditioner that will make your hair shiny and beautiful. It penetrates the hair shafts and helps to repair any hair damage caused by the weather, styling and blow drying. You can use a coconut hair oil mask and leave it on your hair for an hour, covered by a shower cap. Then simply wash out the oil – you will notice the difference straight away. Argan oil is also wonderful for protecting the hair. It smooths out flyaway hairs and helps taming frizz too. When you are washing your hair, try rinsing it through with a cup of green tea – this is a powerful antioxidant that helps your hair growing and reduces split ends.
