5 biggest myths on hair care in summer time

With summer, hair damage arrives. After spending time in the wind, chlorine, salt water and air conditioning your hair may be dull, brassy, frizzy, dry or brittle. But before you start believing hair myths that appear at this time of the year, our Termix experts discover the simple truths behind the most common:

5 wrong believes

1. DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY:FALSE

In summer, the need of washing our hair increases, especially after swimming in the pool or in the beach. If you wash your hands and teeth everyday, why not hair? Daily pollution, dust, lacquers and foams, for example, get our hair dirty and are much more damaging than the minerals found in water. What it IS important is to choose the appropriate shampoo and treatment according to our hair type and need. A clean, conditioned hair is the best sign that your hair is healthy.

2. FLAT IRONING OUR HAIR DAMAGES IT: FALSE

All the opposite. In colored hair, for example, while ironing our hair we achieve a more sealed cuticle, avoiding the loss of pigments and thus, lengthening the durability of the color. It also protects the hair from external aggressions such as pollution. The key, however, is to set the styling iron at the right temperature. We have to stop believing that the warmer our flat iron the more it works in our hair. To avoid hair damage, choose the correct temperature and slowly slide it towards the ends.

3. GET AWAY FROM THE SUN: FALSE

Against what has always been said, solar exposition itself does not damage hair. What does it, is the environment where we normally are more exposed to the sun: the beach. Hot air, along with the sand particles, makes a hair peeling effect on our hair which opens the ends and dries it.

4. PUT HAIR MASKS IN THE BEACH TO PROTECT IT: FALSE

Although we feel that we are giving softness and protection to the hair, masks are prepared to reach the hair cortex, open the cuticle to penetrate inside and act. When we apply a hair mask when we are on the beach what we’re doing is damaging the hair, not repair nor protect it. The sand particles and heat penetrate more easily, deteriorating the quality of the hair from the inside. Thus, rather than mask, apply specific sun protection oil for the hair.

5. DON’T BRUSH YOUR HAIR BECAUSE IT FALLS MORE: FALSE

Hair brushing is a habit that it is not harmful for the hair. It is very good for the scalp because -besides cleaning and unravel the hair- brushing stimulates blood circulation. However, it is important to do it gently -better with dry hair- because wet hair is weaker and more vulnerable to breakage. On the beach, to prevent tangles, the best option is to collect hair and untangle once it is completely dry.

Hair treatments act protecting hair from external aggressions

Its ingredients are configured to create in minutes a protective layer around each hair. After applying the proper shampoo apply an intensive treatment, specific for your needs. Avoid -in this case- using a comb to distribute the product. These treatments are designed to repair internally, opening the scales of the hair (cuticle) to penetrate inside (cortex). If we use a comb during this step we create an aggression on the hair.

Therefore, the best option after rinsing off the product is to apply the conditioner and untangle the hair with a comb with wide teeth (PE-TI825P) leaving it performing for a few minutes. As its name suggests, the conditioner restores its “status” to the hair, providing elasticity, manageability and more shine.
